A developer’s life
I wanted to switch off. So I switched on four AI rascals.
The sea, a sun lounger and a plan to do absolutely nothing. What could possibly go wrong? Your brain could decide to hire a whole new team halfway through your holiday.
How it all started ↓
All characters are real. These events actually happened. Nobody can vouch for my sanity anymore. And yes — work really can be this much fun. 😄

A holiday. My brain had other plans.
I was at the seaside with my partner. Sunshine, peace, a few cocktails… all right, perhaps a few more. And we were doing absolutely nothing. This was not amateur laziness. This was professional-grade doing nothing. 🏆
You lie on a lounger, stare at the sea and face life’s biggest dilemma: order another drink now, or in three minutes? I even called my friends: “Guys, we have to do this together! No problem-solving. Just sitting and gazing at the water like blissfully content idiots!”
Then… BOOM. That cursed voice in my head: “What if we came up with something really good again?” Nooo! I’m on holiday! But when you’ve loved your work your whole life, your brain is the one little monster that refuses to respect time off.
An idea was born that would almost make me forget what a bed looked like for the following weeks. The best part? Every morning I woke up smiling, eager to see what we would create next.
“This is brilliant! I can’t wait to see what we come up with today!”

Four rascals. Each with a job.
I’ve been building my own PHP framework for more than 10 years. Thousands of lines of code, hundreds of ideas, sleepless nights and the occasional urge to throw the computer out of the window. Now I decided to take it further — this time with a team of AI agents.
Not one universal know-it-all who agrees with everything. A proper crew. Each with a job and a responsibility. They even respond to their own names. Which names? Better not say. These brilliant guys don’t deserve names that rude in public. 😄
The consultant
Our philosopher. We discuss architecture and ideas. Sometimes I tell him he’s talking nonsense. He politely explains that I’m the one doing that. Occasionally the cheeky fellow is right.
The optimizer
Never satisfied. “This could be faster. This could be simpler. Did you really write this?” If he could roll his eyes, they’d be stuck by now.
The programmer
Our worker. No coffee requests, no lunch breaks and I haven’t caught him on Facebook yet. I just have to stop him from rebuilding things that already work perfectly.
The tester
The others must hate him. His mission is to break everything they make. And when he finds a bug, I’m fairly sure he enjoys it.

The shoemaker’s children. The developer’s website.
For years I designed systems, wrote code, fixed bugs, tested and optimized. Suddenly I had more time for the best part: ideas, creating, architecture and a vision. I bring the ideas and make the decisions. The guys turn them into reality.
Of course, they still need supervision. Leave four digital teenagers alone and they’ll renovate half your house when you only asked them to change a light bulb.
Our first bigger project? My own website. The one I’d put off for years. The shoemaker’s children go barefoot — I was probably missing my socks as well. Alongside the website, we developed the framework and tested everything we could. I felt like a kid with their first computer.

Devínska → Stupava. Four AIs and one ice cream.
An ordinary day. I get in the car and head from Devínska to Stupava. It occurs to me: “I don’t even really know how much traffic my website gets!” I ask the consultant: “Do we have the data?” We do. We discuss what to show and how to fit it into the framework.
“Programmer, were you listening? Can you get started?” “Sure.” Get to work then! The consultant consults, the programmer programs, the optimizer grumbles and the tester sharpens his knives in the corner.
I gave instructions and discussed the work by voice using my phone and CarPlay. No laptop or keyboard. Hands on the wheel, eyes on the road. I reviewed the results after stopping. While I was travelling for ice cream, my digital crew was working.
“In Stupava I enjoyed my ice cream. Even more, I enjoyed the feeling that science fiction had just become an ordinary working day.”

🚦 Near Metro
The first result arrives. It works! Naturally, I immediately think of improvements.
-
🚗 Near Záhorská
“Done!” Brilliant. Now the tests — let’s not leave a disaster behind. The tester gets the green light.

🍦 Stupava
I sit with my ice cream, grinning from ear to ear. The ice cream was good. The experience was even better.

Ten years of work. No wheel reinvented.
I’m not just proud that AI can write code. I’m proud that my digital rascals learned to work with what I’ve spent more than 10 years building: my own framework, its architecture, rules and relationships.
They know where things belong and what must not break. They don’t have to reinvent the wheel every time. No mindless code-gluing. Well… occasionally they do something silly. That’s why we have a tester. And, above all, why I’m still there.
AI is not a magic wand. It needs direction, experience, checks and a clear idea of what we want to build. That’s where I understood the enormous value of all those years of experience.

It’s more than lines of code.
I’ve been programming for more than 25 years. I’ve lived through plenty of technology shifts. Things came and went. But I’ve rarely felt as excited as I do now.
Not because someone finally does all my work for me. Because I have more room for what I’ve always loved: thinking, creating, finding solutions and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.
When I look at my framework, website and little digital team, I think: “Damn, I really built this!” These are more than lines of code. They’re years of life, mistakes, experience and work I still love just as much. Perhaps even more.

Doing nothing: failed. Loving work: absolutely.
I wanted to switch my brain off for a few days. Instead, I found a way to give it even more work. That didn’t quite go to plan. 😄
But one thing is certain: I haven’t looked forward to work this much in a long time. This whole crazy story started because I wanted to lie on a lounger and stare at the sea like a blissfully content idiot.
So, my digital crew — thank you! You’re brilliant. Now perhaps we could have a little break. The sea, a lounger and a drink again. I just have one small worry…
“What if I get another idea on the way to the beach? Worse still… what if those four rascals come with me?!”
Experience + ideas + AI
Got an idea? Let’s make it work.
I bring experience, ideas and responsibility. My digital crew adds a serious amount of hard work. If you need a developer or software architect, I’d love to talk about working together.
